Kingussie to Carn an Fhreiceadain

This is a strenuous mountain route. 18 km / 11 miles suitable for mountain bikes. Mostly on well-maintained Land Rover tracks Allow 3 hours. Warm clothing required as even on a summer's day it can be cold at the top of the mountain. Ordinance Survey sheet 35 Kingussie and Monadliath Mountains. Refreshments: Cafes and bars in Kingussie. Start in the centre of Kingussie by taking the Ardbroilach Road opposite the Star Hotel. Follow the tarmac road for about 2 kms until you come to a bridge at the Pitmain lodge. Turn right just before the bridge following the green waymark sign to Carn an Fhreiceadain East. When you come to a fork in the track, keep left and pass through a gate. Follow this Land Rover track through another gate, past a bothy and all the way to the summit of Beinn Bhreac and onwards to the summit cairn of Carn an Fhreiceadain. The path is steep here as you go deep into the remote Monadhliaths. After a well earned rest at the summit continue to follow the track downwards. Take care here as some parts can be steep. The Land Rover track follows and crosses a burn via a wooden bridge and eventually you come back to the bridge at Pitmain Lodge. From here just follow the tarmac road back to Kingussie.
