About This Route

Canal tow path and quiet roads to South Queensferry and the Forth Road Bridge. Abercorn Chapel and Hopetoun estate and a stately home  on the route.

Detailed description below

 From the centre of Linlithgow proceed along the tow path (signposted Bike Route 750 of the Union Canal past giant bings, waste mountains  left behind by coalmining , and evidence of Scotland’s volcanic past.  After 7 km arrive at bridge with sign towards Bike Route 76. Climb steps onto minor road and continue north 1 km to crossroads with the A808. Cross road and follow sign to Abercorn.  After 3 km, you will arrive at Abercorn church, then continue along track to seashore and pick up Bike Track 76. Follow bike track east through the grounds of Hopetoun House (House visit and tearoom) and out onto coastal road, which passes into South Queensferry and underneath the Forth Road Bridge. Mount steps to access road bridge.

South Queensferry is a busy town with plenty of pubs and B&Bs.

 

This is the final section of the great pilgrim trail, the Ladywell Way, from Motherwell in Lanarkshire to the Forth Road Bridge at South Queensferry , and then on to St Andrews.
